We're seeing an increase in attacks on teachers.

I do send them away, but it doesn't seem like they are punished, as they are back the next day. One of the students has accused me of cursing at him and the rest of the class has sided with him. I was just put on suspended leave and just found out that I have to go to a hearing now and that my job (at another school) that I accepted might not take me now because of this! I am really destroyed by this incident. The principle seems to be taking the kids side for some reason. I am not sure what to do. Do I need legal representation for this hearing? Is this just procedure? I can't believe I am even in this situation. They seem to have thrown me in the worst class there is and let me fend for myself. The kicker is there is only 6 days of school leave. I am so lost and not sure what to do. Any advice or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks for listening.

I honestly think this would be my worst nightmare. I am sorry you are going through this. I think seeking legal advice might be good. Perhaps you can get other teachers from the school to give you letters of recommendation or to be present. Or even take this to your union ( in Canada there are representative you can talk to). Make a journal of the techniques you have used for discipline with this group for your defense and maybe even a letter for your own reference explaining why you went into teaching to begin with. All of these things might help you plead your case.

Still, she always brings race into it, i try not to even acknowledge her accusations, but it does bother me to no end

When I interact with each new class, I start off with an orientation program (i.e., an introduction to my class). I make it highly interactive, supported to Power Point, and exercises. One of the areas that I touch on is that my class will be a Bully-free zone, and Dignity and Respect will drive all activities. I explain what it is and what is acceptable within the class (the Power Points contain action figures and they will portray each point).
The students truly understand the expectation and if they violate the rules, they understand the consequences. The students seem to feel free to participate without ridicule.

The kids won't stay in their seats, they're constantly talking and yelling, won't do any work. I don't know how to advise her. I never had a class this bad. Suggestions?

He is not actively disruptive, but rather passively in that he refuses to participate or pay attention and he does homework for other classes during the lesson. When I call him out on his behavior, he doesn't seem to care about how I feel about his behavior. He's even openly admitted to me that he finds the subject of Latin "useless" and that he puts very little effort into studying and doing homework. The problem is that while he is among the least motivated of the 75 or so Latin students I have between three different class sections, he has shown the most potential. Despite his lack of interest, he does exceedingly well on tests and quizzes, and despite the lack of time he invests, he does well on homework assignments; it just seems to come so easily for him. He's even the only one in his junior class to receive a gold rank all three of the years he took the National Latin Exam, which is mandatory for all students at my high school. That is what bothers me the most, he does well in my class, but he simply doesn't care about what I have to say or what his fellow classmates have to say. I am at a loss for how to get through to him, as he seems so set on not caring at all about the study of Classics. Any thoughts?
Does anyone have ANY suggestions of what I can do to make him stop?? I hate that he is not learning the way he should. I want to love on him because he is not getting it at home, but he also needs to understand he cannot get away with acting like this in school or anywhere! Thanks!
