Does anyone have tried and true activities which work really well with boys? At this age especially, they are not the same as girls in their approaches to learning ...(!!) So, apart from running around in a pirates-type game, what other activities can you suggest which do well?

I'm just getting started teaching a satire unit, and after talking to students last week, realize that they aren't connected to TV shows/cartoons that are often referenced such as SNL or SP. What are you using to connect students to modern satire?

I don't think any answers will let you know if this is the right prssfeoion for you. Go, volunteer in a classroom, spend some significant time with students in the actual environment. This will let you know soon enough, I promise you. -Middle School Teacher
We have looked at loads of examples of short stories; explored plot management; many technical issues, especially sentence structure and accurate punctuation; most especially, we have examined the importance of strong word choices. STILL some of their practice stories are inaccurate, wordy and waffly.
Do any of you have any ideas for how to make their writing more precise and economic? Thanks.
