Does anyone still do the traditional research paper? Do you require notecards, etc.? I know that in a lot of schools, research papers are not done; students do video projects, power points, more technology projects. My school is not set up for this kind of thing so we still do the traditional paper. There are problems galore so I would like to know what others use (that does not depend on technology).
marjoryt My cc teaches library research and MLA format in Comp. I and then the students do a research paper in Comp. II. We feel it's just too much to absorb in 1 course. My Comp. Sam J I require all my level of English to do research papers. (I may have written this in another thread.) The project meets many of the state standards. The Colorado standards talk about teaching a note-taking method, but it is not specific to note cards. I love note cards because students can arrange and re-arrange notes based on outlines.

Mark Stick with the traditional paper. Use the other stuff as practice, maybe, but stick to the traditional paper.

When a student goes off to college, they will not have the advantage of a teacher walking them through the process. You will do them a great disfavor by not teaching them how to do it.
