does anyone have information on Northstar Reading and Writing Books-the basic/intermediate ones. I am thinking of using them and am wondering if they are theme-based or if any information on them-critiques, etc..
An incredibly annoying ad for Concordia University frequently pops up when I try to make a move on t.net. I have a pop-up blocker in place that stops all other pop-ups but not this one. When the Concordia ad appears, it freezes my computer. I can't close the ad, and it covers most of the page. Aarrgghh!!
I already have my Masters Degreee in Elementary Education, but am not teaching currently. I am interested in obtaining my ESOL certification, but don't want to go thru the process of obtaining a Masters in ESOL. As someone who is not crazy about distance learning, are there any colleges in MD which offer ESOL certification?
Hi, I'm a Spanish teacher at the middle school and high school level. I have an interested in becoming an ESL/bilingual teacher. I was wondering what you like and dislike about being an ESL teacher? What are the pros and cons?
Maybe the content isn't difficult for native English speakers, but ELL¡¯s need formal teaching process and environment. ESL course should be treated as other courses, like math and reading , to be taught.
I am a non-native English student studying in America. When I began my first semester, my university provided ESL courses to me. All international students need to take an exam before the first semester. Then we will be provided different level ESL writing and oral courses according to our scores. I think it is beneficial for me to adapt a new environment and at the same time, my English got a great improvement.
Good morning = Shubh prabhaat Do you need help? = Tamne madad joiye che? Yes = Haa No = Naa Good work! = Saras kaam Pay attention = Kari ne dhyaan aapo Please be quiet = Kripa kari ne shaanti rakho
What grade is he in? Is he literate in Gujarati? Does he speak/read Hindi as well (he may if he went to school in India)?
Found another one in my files, with Gujarati script this time:
good morning = સુપ્રભાત (shubh prabhaat) how are you? = કેમ છો (kem chho) what is your name? = તમારું નામ શું છે? (tamaru naam shum chhe) my name is... = મારું નામ...છે (maaru naam... chhe) I don't understand = સમજણ પટતી નથી (samajana palatii nathii) goodbye = આવજો (avajo) study = ભણવું ask = પૂછવું understand = સમજવું speak = બોલવું question = સવાલ answer = જવાબ lesson = પ્રકરણ homework = ઘર કાર્ય test = ટેસ્ટ

I would also recommend a picture dictionary for him - I think Oxford Picture Dictionary may even have an English-Gujarati edition (and definitely does have an English-Hindi edition), but an English-only picture dictionary would work fine as well. Using a few words in his language can help to make him feel more comfortable and can be helpful in emergencies, but for the most part, rather than you learning words in Gujarati, the focus should be on him learning the words in English. Is he your only Gujarati-speaking student?
I am a new ESL teacher and I am wondering what you all do for your high intermediate students. What do you typically plan for them to do? Do have any resources that are especially good? What do you focus on?
