I'm writing to make you aware of a video activity library I'm working on. They follow the format of: 2-3min video clip, script and discussion questions. The idea is that students can listen, listen and read, then discuss and answer questions.
They are very simple and easy to use. Try them out!
I know the main group of kids I work with are finding it hard to include their opinion, but can I make a SIOP lesson out of that? Any good materials? I was starting to work on it, but their vocab is words like down feather, camouflage, and mates, so I wasn't confident I could use those vocab words and encompass that into a lesson about including their opinions. Thank you for your feedback!!

I think technology is already changing the EFL teacher market. Fewer teachers are needed. With English-language trends changing from language & culture to global English, there's less need for real live native English-speaking teachers. People who are now learning English as a foreign language can get almost everything they need via technology. Now most students don't want or need to learn country/culture specific English, which they used to learn face to face from native English speakers.

Interesting. If the people being interviewed in the videos are typical of English teachers in Asia, they don't give a very good overall impression regarding professionalism, academic preparedness, and maturity. Is this part of a recruiting plan to get more backpackers and non-teachers to "teach" English in Asia?
My name is Jaime and I am in my fourth year of my teaching degree. I am currently participating in a research project of an interest of my choose. I chose Ict and ESL teaching.
I am hoping to get some responses to the following questions in order to assist in answering the question:
How can technology assist with English Langauge Development for students from Non English Speaking Backgrounds?
Thanks for your help x
1. What levels of English are your ESL students currently speaking?
2. What are your preferred methods of teaching English to ESL students?
3. Have you/ do you incorporate technology into teaching your ESL students English? If yes what ways,if no why not?
4. Do you think technology can benefit English learning for ESL students? Why/ not?
Part of me wonders whether I really should pick this battle. On the other hand, he does need to practice if he is ever going improve his English. It think that at least some of it is that he is afraid.
Hi, you correctly identified the cause of the older student not speaking in English. Other causes may be that he is not confident speaking because of mistakes he thinks he will make. Explain that making mistakes is ok, and if you do have to correct them, do that implicitly. Also, you can make him speak without asking him to do so. Read a book together. Then ask each student to retell the story or provide three main points of the story. This could be done orally or in a written form. Also, whatever topic you teach, I am sure you ask them to write something. Whatever that maybe, ask the older one or both of them to prepare an oral presentation of the topic. The topic could be "My favorite sport", or "My favorite ice-cream flavor." The kids could draw pictures, write short essays and then orally present them to you, or even better, to the entire family. This will help the older student see that not only you, as his teacher, but his whole family is proud of him. This will for certain help him to break out of his shell. Hope it helps
