I am an after-school tutor/teacher working with middle school ESL students - all levels. I would like to apply for a grant to purchase additional reading materials and high interest books (classroom sets) to use w/ the students. Your suggestions please!

I worry about f...See MoreI teach elementary ELLs in the US, and I'm noticing a very sad situation. Many students have been asking me questions that they lack sufficient native language skills to ask their non-English speaking parents. For example, one student asked me what happens when you die -- not the body, but the other stuff...where do it go?
I worry about families having such major communication gaps and am wondering if anyone here is seeing this among their students. If so, how are you addressing this? My students are primarily Chinese, but I see this with speakers of many languages. Thanks for any help.

Since I am just getting my credentials this will help me when I get into the classroom and I know how to handle the classroom. Being a new teacher I really don't know what to do and this is a great guide on what I can do.
