Fortunately, I've been told I have freedom to do pretty much whatever I want in terms of getting students to USE their English.
I'm thinking spelling bees, reading actual books, oral presentations, and other stuff. It won't be easy with so many students in one class and the classes being so short (40 minutes).

I never heard that expression and have lived in the US for 70 years. Maybe it is common in a different part of the country but it does make sense to me. I assume it refers to working 6 days a week and taking the Sabbath off as said in the Bible. In other words, giving it a full week's worth of work. There are numerous English expressions which have roots in the Bible.
I found this video on the internet, Blip and Blab ESL Video Course. It looks great but I was looking for something less expensive such as books for the children to read practicing basic English. Are Dolch sight word books the best way to go for this? Maybe games are as good or better or along with interacting with other children.
