I teach elementary ELLs in the US, and I'm noticing a very sad situation. Many students have been asking me questions that they lack sufficient native language skills to ask their non-English speaking parents. For example, one student asked me what happens when you die -- not the body, but the other stuff...where do it go?

I worry about families having such major communication gaps and am wondering if anyone here is seeing this among their students. If so, how are you addressing this? My students are primarily Chinese, but I see this with speakers of many languages. Thanks for any help.
