To Dean,

How much oil is in the Himalayas,? The Andes? The Alps?

Oil comes from heating and compressing organic matter, so
that igneous rock, which comprises a large part of the
earth's substructure, does not produce it.

However, we can and do grow organic matter that can be
harvested as petroleum.

My position is that we will need fossil fuels for the short
term as a national security, less an economic measure,
until we have more efficient and more ecological sources of
fuel.

We already have the means to do it. But the question
remains, do we have the will to do so?
