The closing credits will roll tonight at the Vic, downtown
Victoria's last single-screen movie house.

The changing state of the movie industry and an expiring
lease at its Nootka Court location were the main reasons
for closing the 218-seat theatre, a Landmark Cinemas
spokesman confirmed late yesterday.

While industry insiders had speculated the Vic was in
trouble, the sudden news of the closing came as a shock to
patrons who heard about it at a screening last night.

The writing was on the wall," said Trent Sales, Landmark's
senior operations manager. "It did well when we had
exclusive art films, but with the growing screen count in
Victoria, it's become harder to compete."
