Hello I have to take the MAT (Miller Analogy) exam for a School Counseling program. Can anyone give me any tips? What do I need to study? Do I really even need to study? Any advice is helpful. Thanks in advance

My concern is with not getting teachers or the head of school to provide feedback to the sensitive nature of student dynamics and clicks that I am observing that exists in the school. I like the job very much, and for the most part, everyone is wonderful; students, parents, staff alike. On a couple of occassions, parents, or students have complained to the director of assignments or a request of them - that I made - such as working in groups, Students would go home and "cry their eyes out hysterically". They are a sensitive lot, I give them lots of time to complete an asssignment, and choice of who they want to be in a group with - someone gets left out - this is a major problem. A parent suggested that I meet with teachers to learn of the dynamics, I have reached out, but no one will step forward and assist me in gaining clarity. I developed what I thought was a wonderful program, and most students are OK with what I am doing. It is just a few, including the diirectors son, who saw fit to start a very important assignment in class - on the day it was due - and they had 4 weeks to complete!!
Please help me figure out how to approach the school director with sensitivity, but also with a degree of concern for my program - and boundaries. I have a meeting with director tomorrow, and I don't want to blow what I have established at the school.
I've done comparisons and can say that the CBEST is cheaper, fairer, easier. The math section is middle school vs high school on the Praxis. The CBEST tests your knowledge, the Praxis seeks to confuse you and is squirrely. The CBEST gives you a refund up to 24 hours prior to the test date including Sunday. Praxis needs 3 business days, if you schedule on Friday, can't cancel for Monday. The CBEST gives you an unbroken 4 hours which you can distribute amongst the three sections however fast you can do one,and use the extra time on the part that is harder for you. The Praxis cuts off at 75 minutes on the Reading and Math, so if you finish one first, you just sit there, and cannot use the extra time on the Math, for instance. The customer service is terrible for Prometric and Praxis. The customer service for the GRE and CBEST is nice. They will spend time with you and answer your questions. The Praxis takes almost a month to send your printed scores, says it will send them to other institutions. I took the Praxis I in September and still have not received my printed scores, nor has the designated institution received them electronically. I checked with the department of education in my state and with my university graduate department and they both will accept the CBEST. While not advertised, if you check with your institutions that you are dealing with, they might accept the CBEST. It is administered by Pearson. Praxis is administered by ETS and is a monopoly and treats you just like a monopoly does when they think they have you trapped. Fortunately, I was able to avoid the mouse trap. Spread the word. That is what ETS and Prometric need. They need to have competition. Don't give up on your teaching career because of the Praxis I--travel to California if necessary to take the test. It will be worth it. Once you pass the CBEST you get a Verification Card which is good forever. Also, all three tests are combined so that there are no individual parts that have to meet a minimum, OTHER than if you receive less than 37 on any one part, you cannot pass the CBEST. But you don't have three different sections with three different scores that you have to meet like on the Praxis I.
Several posters are in administrative / quasi- administrative positions in our districts and schools. We serve as content area coordinators, specialists, coaches, etc. It would be nice to have a board to visit with others.

I'd like that, too... having administrators.net is nice but an "admin board" is about as general as a "teacher board", and without having a more specific focus the admin board is becoming a forum for venting and bickering... kind of the like the general teacher forum here. A board for curriculum administrators or program coordinators would be nice. The remedial reading board is sometimes used that way as well (but only for reading and sometimes Title I in general), so I think a new board would get traffic from there as well - our questions don't quite fit on the existing boards.
The admin-bashing on the admin board is getting out of control... what are the chances of creating more than one admin board so that one could be focused on professional dialogue for administrators and coordinators... another could be for teachers to vent or to ask questions of administrators? That way the teachers who want to vent to administrators can still have their forum to be heard without taking over the ONLY admin forum with anti-admin vents.
ASSED THE PRAXIS READING PART FINALLY. NOTE, AFTER TAKING IT 8 TIMES. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TESTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED. I FOUND THIS PARTICULAR TEST TO BE EASY, UNLIKE THE 7 BEFORE. I SCORED A 178 PASSING WAS A 175 IN SC. KEEP TAKING IT MAYBE 8 IS A MAGICAL NUMBER. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE TAKING THIS TEST.
We have got to get together and do something about this unfair loan forgiveness policy. What about people who changed career fields to help in teaching and took out loans before 1998. We changed careers to help out in the teaching field and now we are being screwed. Betty Belzeski
Not sure how much scientific validity it would have, but for non-statistical data collection something like this could be a real boon to teachers, looking to shape research collection for a thesis, paper, project, or their own interest. It could also be fun for current events.
