An Alternate Route info. site would be greatly appreciated on the NJ teacher's chatboard. We who are going this route need definitive answers (from dept. pros and lay experiences).
Personally, I am unhappy with the number of advertisements showing up on these boards as postings. Shouldn't there be some rules about this? Does anyone read these posts befor they are posted? Thanks, Joy/6/NJ
I am fixing to start college and i really have been wanting to found out more about teaching elem and high school art...but the most important question i want to ask is how much does a teacher make. and does it really matter if it's elementry or high school.
1. What were your major concerns during your first year of teaching? 2. What type of support & by whom was most helpful? 3. What things became easier as you gained experiance? 4. What advice would you give me as a prospective teacher?
I have a big concern about the main chatboard. Lately it seems like everyone is running around screaming the name TROLL at the top of their lungs. I have read some of the posts that were labeled as such. I found nothing wrong with the posts. The only reason I could see for them getting the Troll label was that they were criticizing someone's ideas.
Anyways, the quality of the board has gone downhill in a very short amount of time. To me, it almost feels like posters are being discouraged from giving criticism or from even disagreeing (politely of course) in their responses to each other. There are some definite ringleaders in this movement. They are easy enough to spot. I just wanted to say I am uncomfortable with this and I don't think I can stay around anymore.
Echo the sentiments and beliefs of the ringleaders and receive a "free pass", but express your own opposite passions and be banned for having them.
Trouble is: The ringleaders intimidate others from speaking freely. One in particular will completely destroy you with verbal bashings until you wave your white flag and retreat. He takes no prisoners. The other dedicates her time to deciding who is sincere and who is just there to cause trouble. She must be clairvoyant.
Most of those people on that board are wonderful people who interact nicely. The bad apples, who don't see themselves as bad apples, are commandeering the board. :(
I hope a lightning bolt doesn't swoop down on me...
This is so true. I posted my thoughts on a subject (in response to a discussion that was already on the board about a current event going on in the world) and got blasted as being unfit to teach, etc. My teaching and my worth in the classroom had no connection with the topic that was being discussed at the time and for someone to tell me how worthless I am as an educator is disheartening. I know that I can ignore this. However; a discussion about an event should stay within that discussion and no one should take the opportunity to attack someone personally about the worth of their life and/or career just because they happened to have a different viewpoint -- or explain themselves in a different way than the "approved" way. Jumping to conclusions about a person's intent is not right. Thanks for listening.

I just took the Feb. Profesional Dev. Excet Exam! On this test,I saw some of these questions on a university website as their sample practice questions for help for this test. Has anyone know or has seen this website, please let me know!
