Hi, I am currently taking a class on co-teaching and collaboration. For this class, I need to conduct a quick survey (9 questions) on co-teaching and would appreciate your help. It's completely anonymous. Thanks!!!
I teach 5th grade and I am using a camping theme this year. I brought in a tent for my reading center and created a fake campfire. I found a lot of camping theme items on [link removed].
KellyI am doing monsters. Previously ive done monkeys, rainforest frogs, movie theater. Realize that they are still children and love whatever you are excited about. Even stickers!

Then I tried Re...See MoreReading Workshop is a way to make reading fun for your students. For years my classroom library bookshelves were untouched. I just could not get my students to open one of my books. I had class sets of books, so we read various novels at home, and I tested them for comprehension, but the love of reading just was not there.
Then I tried Reading Workshop - where students pick their own books to read, find a cozy area in the classroom and read silently, and they started begging me to read! I started buying books for the classroom library to keep up with their demand for more books in a series...
During Reading Workshop, I am supposed to have conferencing with students, and small group instruction on strategies. I am not that great on that part, yet.
If you want to get a great overview on Reading Workshop, and how to implement it in your classroom, come to Laura Candler's free webinar this Thursday, July 21st at 8:00 p.m. EST. A webinar is an online gathering of people. You can hear Laura explain how to set up and run Reading Workshop, plus you can see visuals, like you would in a PowerPoint presentation.
If you can not attend the webinar, it is recorded, so you can access it and learn at another time. I will be there as a moderator, chatting in the chat box with teachers, and helping run things. Give it a try, and while you are at Laura's website, visit her file cabinet for great handouts on all subjects. She is an amazing teacher, and has lots of ideas on cooperative learning activities.

This is my way of giving back to the profession I embraced so many years ago.
judy5caIt's a GREAT book if you're new to the writer's workshop structure and philosophy. Basic. Couple that with his Craft Lessons (and Nonfiction Craft Lessons) and you'd be all set for your first year of WW. Good luck, Judy
