My name is Matthew Callison. I am a former elementary teacher working on my PhD in the School of Education at Indiana University Bloomington.
I am writing to ask for your voluntary participation in an online survey I created as part of a research study I am conducting. The purpose of this study is to learn more about elementary teachers knowledge of, and experience with, student-centered teaching approaches. My hope is that the information gathered in this study can be used to understand how we can better support elementary teachers.
If you are an elementary teacher, please consider participating in this online survey. Your experiences as an elementary teacher are invaluable in helping researchers and teacher educators learn more about how to support teachers like you in your important work.
The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete and does not collect any personal information unless you decide to leave your contact information at the end of the survey. You can learn more about the study and begin the survey (if you choose to participate) by visiting the link below:

If you know of other elementary teachers who may wish to participate in this study, please feel free to forward this email to them.
Thank you for your time.

New this year, my students all have their own laptop. Each grading period, I have had them do both social studies presentations and book reports on using a different presentation platform. So far, I have used Prezi, Glogster.edu, and plan to use PowerPoint. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
...See MoreI am new to fifth grade and I am looking for some books that will help with a good solid balance literacy block. We have a 90 minute block that is protected. Which book would you recommend? Fountas and Pinell "Guided Reading and Writing for Grades 3-6" or Jan Richardson, " Guided Reading" ( I think that this is the title for these books.)

Can someone give me an idea for some good resources for Readers Theatre in fifth grade? I have looked and several books on Amazon and I like a lot, but my budget does not. I had rather pay a little more for a good solid resource that has a lot of plays, instead of a little that has only that has only a few.
LisaI'm going to work on a week long unit next week with lessons and reader's theatre scripts to use with my fifth graders after the break. I will post it on TPT. I'll come back and let you know when it's done. Lis

I'm working on a project with picture books, but I own hundreds! I'm trying to prioritize. What are your favorite picture books that you use every year for teaching? I'd love your feedback. Thanks!
If you are looking for something new for Thanksgiving, I just looked at a webcast from Plimouth Plantation and Scholastic that has the Plantation actors playing their roles on the Mayflower 2. It had lots of facts that I didn't know in about 20 minutes. Worth a look. [link removed]
