5th graders don't need a theme. My room is for learning teaching and learning decor. We start out with earth science and multiplication. For science I have rock posters on the walls, labeled rocks placed around the room, a microscope and other tools scientists use, books about rocks and minerals, and after we finisch rocks and minerals, I'll put up posters about the solar system. For math, I have up posters about multiplication: the associative, distributive, and commutative properties, making arrays-marked and unmarkes, place value, vocabulary, vertical, horizontal, math symbol signs, etc. 5th graders need up material that will help them learn, as the curriculum is getting more difficult by 5th grade. It's not so much about the cutesy stuff anymore.
ny/5 I agree. Too much to do to be concerned about themes.
