Possible Rotation Schedule for 5th graders with 5 teachers

We are looking for options for rotation schedules for our team. We will be having 5 teachers next year and want to look at options.

NY teacher You could have a math, science, social studies, reading, and writing teacher.

Change it by having two teachers each teach reading and writing to some of the classes. (Example - One teacher teaches three reading classes and two writing classes while the other teaches two reading classes and three writing classes)

I've seen teams do this where they kept their home room classes for a language arts block and then rotated (but they had only 3-4 teachers per team). One huge benefit to having a rotation like this is that it guarantees the students access to social studies and science time, which are sometimes pinched.

One thing to consider is that rotations where some fifth graders are in reading while others are in science could be challenging for support staff. This could include gifted teachers who aren't allowed to pull out of reading or math, as well as reading specialists who only have a certain block of time to support students in fifth grade before they have to assist a different grade level.

Some other options might include a creative thinking skills class, which could focus on learning styles and problem-solving strategies. You could also keep social studies as more of a traditional class and have a second one that focuses on team building skills and career awareness with guest speakers, and maybe some conflict resolution/peer mediation strategies.

A final idea would be to use the time to do some cross-grade-level grouping based on pre-testing. One teacher could work with students who are the extreme upper end of readiness with a particular skill (like ordering or multiplying fractions, for example), 2-3 teachers could work with students in the middle of the spectrum (the third teacher might be better used working with above-average or struggling students), and the final teacher could work with the smallest group to give support to students who need a lot of assistance with the concept.
