Hello fellow firsties,

What do you send home for reading homework? sight words? levelled books? booklets? It seems that every year no matter what I do I get complaints or those who do nothing to support their child so I'd like to know what others do.

I ask that parents read aloud to their child - every night if possible - and for 5-10 minutes. I also ask that the child read 15 minutes every night in a book that's easy for the child and I explain why I want them doing nightly read...See More

mandie Our core program, ocr, has a daily takehome paper book (some days 2) so I ask that they read it, alone or with help each night. This can be a lot, so I don't require it...but I do have parents sign a ticket they can bring back to school the next day to get money for the school store, so most kids usually do it.
