What is the besst theme you have ever used for "Back to School"? My Camping theme was pretty successful last year but I'm having trouble being creative so far. Any ideas?

Hi, I am currently taking a class on co-teaching and collaboration. For this class, I need to conduct a quick survey (9 questions) on co-teaching and would appreciate your help. It's completely anonymous. Thanks!!! [link removed]
My school's theme for back to school is "Wild about Learning." I love the theme, but I did this last year and would like to do something different. Last year's slant was on "wild animals"... Anyone have a different take on this theme I could take on this so I can have a little fun with it?
4TH GRADEInstead of wild animals...why not focus on Wild adventures? This could apply to any subject..ie Wild adventures in reading (Narnia Tales) Soc st..Wild civil War facts ect

That is sooooo cool! Really a great idea! Thanks so much for your help!
Has anyone used a "journey" theme? We're using feet/steps in our journey this year. I teach S. St. so I'm also using the journey theme with ships journeying from other countries. Any other ideas?
Last year I had a "Journey Around the World" theme that I could link to Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Science and Math... I used Hot Air Balloons with the kids' names on them around a huge globe to welcome them. Then, as we read books, we'd take a world map and tack on miniature homemade markers where the kids' books took them. In writing, we'd try and write about places we'd been and places we've read about that we would like to travel to...
It's an excellent theme you can use in so many ways!
I am getting ready to interview for a 4th grade position, but most of my experience is in the primary grades. What teaching skills should I stress to get the job?? Thanks in advance! Kathy
I am a first year teacher. What advice do you have for me? What should I have prepared before preplanning? I am only teaching reading, writing, and language arts...any advice?
Be prepared for the first year to be a lot of work. Plan, plan and plan some more. Be prepared to have readers and writers at many different levels. Learn about learning differences! Check out Mel Levine's book called The Myth of the Lazy Child. You don't say what year you're teaching but I'd say - give less homework, not more. Ask students to read - in an easy book - every night for 20 minutes. Ask parents to read outloud to their child. If you got either of those to happen, that's great work and the best of homework. Learn what dysgraphia means and dyslexia too and that more than a few kids have one or both of those.
Reading and writing are just part of it - listening and speaking with reading and writing comprise human communication and that's the point. We read and write and listen and speak to communicate. What we're really teaching is how to communicate - emphasize that because not only is it true, it makes sense to kids.
Leave your ego at home. Be flexible and bend over backwards to be patient and generous. Check out lessons and steal ideas from youtube.com. Read aloud to your classes if you're a good expressive reader. Learning grammar out of the context of writing doesn't really teach grammar. The rules of language are intended to serve us and our communication - we invented the rules, the rules didn't invent us.
When a child tells you they don't like to read, don't act like they stomped on a kitten. Not everybody does like to read. Show them that you do like to read and talk about what you're reading. Make your classroom a place they look forward to coming back to every day.

What grade are you teaching? I can help you with a variety of ideas but I would need to know your grade level first
I'm starting an either an postcard exchange program or a pen pal program. We live in Texas and 4th graders are required to do to the Writing TAKS which is a standardized test. I wanted to get the kids prepared so writing other students will give them a great start. Thanks
