I would like to gve each of my students a little welcome back package for back to school with a positive message for the school year. Does anyone have something that they use each year for their students?
Welcome to my 3rd grade class! I am so glad you are here. I have made you a bag of goodies, to help describe our year. The eraser is to let you know it is okay to make mistakes, we will correct them and learn from them no matter what it takes! The "Smarties" say I know you are smart, and really special too. The "Lifesaver" is to remind you that I am here for you. The pencil represents the learning that we will do. 3rd grade can be very hard, but it is a lot of fun too! The "Snickers" says we will laugh a lot, while traveling through grade 3. The penny is to let you know how valuable you are to me!
Don't know if the Snickers bar is a good idea with so many allergies. If you look online, you will find several sites with similar ideas.
I’m an elementary teacher who has developed a fun but effective math/music program for students grades 3-6. The audio and video series are aligned to State and Common Core Standards and really motivates students to learn math and equips them with the foundation to excel on Standardized TESTS.
Has anyone used the Mimio system which is used with a magnetic dry erase board? It's about $900 cheaper the Smartboard. Does anyone have the pros and cons?
A couple things came to mind while reading this post: 1) You use a TI 84+ calculator with 4th graders? 2) This is your only example of using a SMARTboard with 4th graders?
On another note, I'd get a SMARTboard only if you can get a multi-touch model. Otherwise, it gets one kid out of her seat, while the other kids are watching her get out of her seat

I have to say it is not the hardware you are looking at it is the software. Mimo cost less but the Smart Ed software is outstanding. I am the tech person in our district. I had a math teacher who has a mimo but likes the Smart Ed software. Go to the website I posted. You will discover many great things for you to use. Please share this with the rest of your school district. I update it sometimes twice a day
I am new to a 4th grade position....the Social studies book we are using is boring and has few ideas. Was wondering if others could share websites which they have found useful with their programs.

You can have a class economy. Start with them applying for jobs. They get paid, and they pay rent for their use of the classroom. Then in October have a recession and give them pay cuts. Do an entrepreneur literature study to collect ideas to start their own classroom business. Give the entrepreneurs grants to help them out. When most of the class has shifted over, study advertising, and have them make their own commercials. Use a green screen for them. Also, include a stock market with stocks for each business. Also, put in a welfare system. If one student can not pay rent, all other students' taxes go up.
I retired last year and have lots of teacher resources and hands on items for sale at garage sale prices. All in good/new condition. If you are interested, email for my list.
Items are from Mailbox, Scholastic, Carson-Dellosa, etc.

Hi Bev,
I am a first year teacher and in desperate need for teacher resources. Please let me know if you still have items that you are looking to get rid of. I assume by the MI next to your name, you are in Michigan. Which part?
