B-MIHi, Jill. I have retired and have lots of resource materials for sale. If you are interested in getting a good deal and lots of freebies, email and I will send you a list of what I have. All are in good to new condition, from Scholastic, Carson-Dellosa, Mailbox, etc.

i have taught 4th grade for 5 years and would like to implement this for next year. Can anyone tell me how to go about it? I need specifics as to my role and the student expectations, how to manage it, and what the objectives would be. please feel free to email nme.
Help! I need to find and learn what I need for 4th grade skills and common core. After teaching 20 years in Kindergarten, I will be teaching 4th grade this year. I would appreciate any websites or other means to help me get a handle on this. Thanks in advance.

The students are under pressure for performing well on the tests. Maybe something happened that day that influenced their attitude (problems on the playground, lunchroom, or building).
I know in MI, when the students started showing improvements, the state would change the test and make it harder. Test results plunged. One year the vocabulary in the math test changed. We then taught the new vocabulary and what does the state do? Changed it back to the original voc. the next year. I was prepared: taught old and new words.
Also, remember, the practice tests are usually VERY easy. I think it gives the students a false sense of confidence. Then they just really don't concentrate on what is being asked of them.
Another thought: Third grade students and tests are quite different than fourth graders and harder tests (more is expected from them).
Years ago, I proposed that all 4th grade teachers (at that time only 4th graders were being tested) boycott giving the test. That went over like a lead balloon! I was even called into the principal's office to hear how badly my students had done...but I then pointed out, this test was given in October and I had them only one month! Before that we gave the CTBS (standardized CA test of Basic Skills), our state/district did very well. But then the state got on the bandwagon and decided to create their own state test. Now the test is being given in January and teachers are being held accountable for the results. Sorry, I got carried away. I hope you find some answers, and you see more positive results next year.
You said this was your first year teaching, did you study the state released practice test? Fla. releases a few texts that were on the state test in like 2008. My first year teaching fourth I focused on setting up literature circles and did little work in the basal. I thought the students were performing ok. Realilty check-their scores stunk. I had no frame of reference to say they were doing ok.
Now I am using more of the basal for the practice passages that go along with the series. Still have kids doing book clubs occassionally-independent book choice is still my favorite. I use the basal series small books, articles or poems in guided reading.
Did you teach test strategies? Preview questions. Underline key words. Go back and record where you found the answer in the text.
Last but least-don't beat yourself up. Teaching is a learning process.
Hi all, I wanted a catchy title for my 4th gr. newsletter. I am having a brain freeze and cannot come up with anything. Anyone have a creative idea? I don't want to call it the Fourth Grade Newsletter - how boring!
My students will have access to iPads for a portion of each school day. I need guidance because I really don't know what I want to use them for besides perhaps math facts. Seems a little pricey for flashcards!
Can the iPad make my life easier and my teaching more effective? I'm open to suggestions.
I am looking for a new behavior management system for my fourth grade classroom. I am open to suggestions and ideas. I use daily behavior reports and behavior bingo, but think it's time to change it up. Thanks!
