Public education has "childproofed" education, and we will regret it. As Dr. Mark Benden shared in our interview, “We will look back on the past generation and ask, ‘What were those people thinking making children sit still all day in school? Who thought that was a good idea?’"
I have been in the education field for almost 20 years. The last five years of my career has been as a Kindergarten Extension Instructor (Aide). I used to teach fourth grade about 13 years ago at a small charter school. Now I am going back to fourth grade in a public school that is a gifted cluster school. I am feeling somewhat anxious. I will have instructional support in my class. How can I overcome this feeling? What are some great ways to stay organized? I am also going to be driving back and forth about 50 miles one way for right now until my husband and I can move closer to our jobs. What are some really good things I can do the first week to help break the ice between the students and myself. Am I wrong for looking for a mentor to help me? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. :) Have a great and safe week. :)
