Cherche désespérément une nouvelle texte pour nos élèves du 1-3 Year. Au. secours!!!!! We have changed text 4 Times In past 4 years.... So hard to find text books or courses that appeal to all and often the second book is disappointing or Boring or "lourd....."
Which books have you used? Sadly, there are not that many out there like in Spanish. We use D'accord, but our students have French from 6th grade and are in the 2nd year book by the second half of 8th grade. In French 3 and 4, we use Bravo in addition to readers and other books.
I attended the Northeast Conference here in NYC this weekend, and there were not many French books...Discovering French, Bien Dit, D'accord, and T'es branche.

As no textbook seri...See More I'll go straight to the point. It takes time to master a tool. Nothing will please everyone. So, get past trying to do so.
It takes about 3 years to master the art of using a textbook. Un texte est une méthode. For a "méthode" to work, it must be used consistently over an extended period of time.
As no textbook series is perfect, one should supplement it with content that suits teacher preferences and student needs.
A master cook can take a bowl of lemons and turn them into many treats: pie, pudding, lemonade, sorbet.
The more you use your textbook series, the more you come to like it. It is like making a new friend. Relationships take time to develop.
Bien à vous, James

Merci beaucoup James. Tout vos conseils me seront tres precieux. Merci aussi pour les liens communiques. J'apprecie beaucoup toute votre aide. Bien cordialement, Erika
We will use discovering French for the first time next year. How many chapters/lessons do you complete for the first year in High School ? Thanks a lot !! :) Erika
The DF level I, Bleu, teachers' book may give you 3 possible pacing guides: slow - medium - fast. The 1980 edition did. I always found myself between the medium and fast paced guidelines.
Regardless of the textbook you use in level one, I have always taught through the Passé Composé with être.
Level II, Blanc, You should aim for finishing Unit 7, Lesson 28, the clothing unit. I also teach the simple future from Lesson 31 before Halloween. Trust me, it works and speaking French becomes so much more authentic.
Level III, Rouge, You can expect to teach through Unit 9, with no problem. I also spend a week each on teaching thoroughly the passive voice and le discours indirect au passé.
I used the DF series for 16 of my 30 years teaching. If you are looking for supplemental activity pages matching the DF series, look here https://www.quia.com/pages/jodonnell/page91
Be sure to the DF online activities and flashcards.
Bien à vous,
James

...See MoreHi... I am excited as my high school is going to start a French Culture class for the 2016-17 school year! Does anyone know of a book that focuses more on the culture and not so much the grammar. This will be a 3 year cycle. The following year will offer a French 1 followed by a French 2. Then it will cycle back again to the culture class.
I have some ideas as what topics I want to cover, but would like to have some sort of guide to fall back on.
I am very excited to be teaching French again! Currently I am teaching Spanish. Merci for your ideas!
1) Civilisation progressive du français, niveau débutant 2)Civilisation en dialogues, débutant ISB 978-2-09-035214-6
Both books are printed by CLE International. You can acquire them from Amazon and Continental Book Co.
You will find samples pages in the CLE website. [link removed]
Bien à vous,
James O'

Hi, We are on the search for a second year French text that introduces most of the tenses and includes cultural and speaking activities. Can anyone recommend a current text?

It has all the tenses, including the subjunctive. It does not address the passé simple, but I do that with my own sources.

I currently use Intrigue in my level 4 and 5. The kids love it. The story keeps them interested and I love the fact that they get to review all the grammar. Because we are on a 4 by 4 block schedule and kids don't always sign up for 2 level, I need to switch my curriculum every year. Does anyone know a book similar to it that I could use. Merci
Hey everyone, Does anyone know where I can access the PowerPoint presentations for the Bon Voyage textbook series? I have the TeacherWorks plus CDs, but I can't find them on there. If anyone uses these and knows where I can get them I would appreciate it! Merci bien!
