I just made my reservations for Austin. Talked to Jeremiah.......he was so sweet. I got a room with two beds for $65.40 a night......and microwave and fridge.
Grits............Bette has worked so hard on this, and I have done zip, nada. However I did actually look in the Austin Chronicle, a (shall we say) entertainment and lifestyles weekly. I got lots of ideas but since it was a March issue, everything was SXSW, the big film and music festival. Austin, to me, is a thousand holes in the wall, every kind of music and entertainment, rather a Greenwich Village than a Washington DC.
There are some top notch museums but there is also Sixth Street where every night is the night before Maudi Gras.
Or in other words, Bette has a gajillion suggestions and I haven't committed to any.

It has lots of the "happening" things. My daughter who calls Austin homebase says, "Mom, don't look at the alternative lifestyle things. They will curl your hair." So I am avoiding those but seeing lots of stuff.
The last hard issue of the Chronicle that I got was all about SXSW....South By Southwest, Austin's big film and music festival. Maybe when I retire, I can go to that.

Education is the greatest gift from one generation to the next. However, our generation has bankrupted and mismanaged this educational inheritance of most minority students and others with emotional and or cognitive deficiencies. We are all educators.
From the decisions in Brown v. Board of Education to Jose P. v. Board of Education we were moving forward in providing a fair education to all students, although the system was moving at a turtle’s pace. Currently, we are reversing course, and we are moving at a cheetah’s speed in the educational neglect of minority students. Consequently, the great dream of a united and equal educational society is drifting away like a boat in the deep ocean without a captain. When will this dream be implemented?
District 75 of the NYCDOE is consistently inconsistent in educating special needs students. Our inaction is suggesting that we are condoning such behavior. Sadly, it appears that our resolve to enforce fundamental educational rights of these students has become a philosophical matter. We must rise up to the task!
I sincerely hope that our Great Educational Bank of Justice will not send us to the United Fraternity and Sorority of Injustice to deposit this instructional fairness check. This is the same check that has been returned marked insufficient educational funds and commitment so many times for so many centuries. Sadly, the system has been cruising steadfastly in this environmental and willful segregation of the educational setting. Historically, separated is never equal. Actually, this segment is being left behind either accidentally or willfully. Where do you stand?
We try to instill great citizenship and civic duties to our students, so college instead of jailhouse is the rightful path to follow. However, this system is failing them by its entrenched philosophy. We should stop trying to decipher the truth, because it is self-evident. What have you done to facilitate some positive instructional outcomes for these students? If everyone helps, No Child will be Left Behind. If someone speaks out, most children will benefit. Time has come for everyone to do the right thing, educate our children. Excellent education should not be a choice for a few; it is a must for all students.
I salute those of you who are committed to a good and fair education for all students. We should always stay united in the pursuit of educational excellence. The greatness of our nation is intertwined with the quality of our educational system. With wisdom and commitment we can achieve educational equality for all students.
