I think the quality of illustrations can be critical to how much classroom materials (texts, worksheets, lesson guides, etc.) appeal to the students. But, I'm wondering how other teachers feel. Obviously, the most important quality is how well it teaches the subject. Illustrations and graphics mean nothing if the rest of the resource is junk. But, I often look at materials and think about how little they've changed since I was a student (as in, not at all). Meanwhile, many media, like television, video games, "regular" books and online resources, continue to evolve the ways they present information.

I've been wondering if a more modernized approach to the graphic element of these materials would be beneficial- using multidimensional graphics, infographics, and other contemporary design styles (that are still age appropriate and secondary to well-written and informative text, of course).
