Becky, I guess you are going to be a German teacher since you posted on this chatboard. I use to teach German when my husband and I were stationed in Germany. I now just sub for different foreign languages at schools here in Manhattan, KS. They best advice I can give you about teaching is to stay positive. Your first years as a teacher are going to be tough, but rewarding. Teaching a foreign language is tough so really know your subject and understand that German can be intimidating to a lot of students. Keep things as fun as possible and you will do a great job.
I have been a German teacher for 8 years. It has been one of the best decisions of my life! I am now waiting to interview for German positions in New York as we have relocated to my home state. I can honestly say that I miss teaching German on a daily basis! There is so much you can do to enhance students' worldviews as well as their German (as well as English!) grammar each and every day. Hang in there and make sure when you get to a position you build up the German program!!
