We're fed by an overspill estate where the three surrounding towns send their problem families. Everyone appears to be related to everyone else and more than 80&37; of the families are broken or blended. That seems extraordinarily high to me.
I am already looking for somewhere else to go because there are some serious, dangerous shortcomings here. Staff are not safe. There's an onsite behaviour unit - that should tell you something - and it is well used. It doesn't work, but it's well used...
On top of a difficult difficult job, my Mother-in-Law has developed a leg ulcer. She's almost totally disabled and has to live with her children in turn. I am NOT a carer and she is a difficult woman. My back is hurting permanently from having to move her around etc. She may not recover for another 18 months and by then her mobility will have regressed so much that she will need permanent care. She craves company and is desperately needy. She would love to be in a good home where she had help and company all day, but her daughter - who wants to inherit her money (and will, although she doesn't know that we have made the whole will in her favour) is insisting that her mother lives with her children. She will not listen to any other solutions. We have her three days a week and then alternate weekends. It's too much, too much, too much.
No advice--not when you so clearly say it's a vent. I'm glad you feel this is a safe place to vent.

Some of you may know that I am running these days. I can't believe I'm actually doing it. I've now run 5km without stopping, 3 times in my life - the last three Saturdays. I'm slow, but getting faster. This morning I sprinted to the finish. My average speed was about 7km/hour, but that last hit got up to 12km/hour. I felt like I was flying! My broken leg has thoroughly healed. There are times I think that it was the best thing that could have happened to me.
Previous to this year I've had just three interviews in my life. This week I had two. They were middle management roles in each of my teaching departments. Though I didn't get either of them, I interviewed well and got encouraging feedback about continuing to put myself forward. In each case the bosses went away saying "I didn't know you could do that." I can't believe I actually put my hand up. I think it's all connected with the running - pushing through barriers and just keeping on going.
Our school year is drawing to a close and I'm excited for what next year will bring. This year I taught three music classes (Year 7 & 8) and five religion classes (7, 8 & 9), all compulsory. Ours is a 7-12 school and I only got the bottom end, and no elective music at all. It's been a tough year. Teaching religion in a high school to kids who aren't churched and whose parents don't overtly support the value of religion can be somewhat of an uphill battle.
Next year I'll have the year 12 and Year 9 elective music classes - YAY!! I'll also have one 7 and one 8, but for this year each grade will be rostered on at the same time, so we'll be able to team teach. The other teacher is taking a year off and there is a crop of new teachers coming to the subject and they are all singers and pianists. I'm soooo excited about those possibilities!!
On the religion front, I've been given Year 11 religion for the first time in my life. It is an externally examinable subject so their focus is different to the junior school. My co-ordinator said yesterday that he couldn't understand why I'd been ignored for so many years and that this is a reward for spending so long in the trenches. :-) I'll also have year 7, and that's a lovely course to teach.
So many possibilities for a great year!
To finish, I have to tell you about my granddaughter. She is 2 1/2 and last night had a bad night. Her Daddy asked her this morning, "What was wrong last night?" "I'm nocturnal" was her reply. Oh I had a good belly laugh!!!!!
Cheers everyone. I hope that Winter isn't too cold for you and that you have a great Christmas/Hannukah/Winter break.
8 CAN CROCKPOT TACO SOUP no dicing or slicing just open the cans. 1 lb . lean ground beef 1 can (15 oz.) kidney beans 1 can (15 oz.) pinto beans 1 can (15 oz.) black OR garbanzo beans (whatever you like best) 1 can (11 to 15 oz.) whole kernel corn, drained 1 can olives whole or sliced, drained 1 can (10 oz.) Rotel tomatoes 1 can (28 oz.) diced tomatoes (I get the petite diced tomatoes) 1 sm. can (4 oz.) chopped chile peppers 1 envelope Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing 1 envelope taco seasoning
Brown meat, drain well (can do this the night before and just refrig. after browning) Add remaining ingredients and stir in crockpot. ONLY DRAIN THE CORN and OLIVES!!!!!!!!! Simmer in slow cooker on LOW all day or on HIGH for 5-6 hours OR brown meat and put all the rest in a soup pot 2 hours before dinner. Let simmer stirring often.
Serve with tortilla chips or cornbread and a bag of pre cut salad for ease. I double this recipe for parties/potlucks/staff meetings.
Kathleen or someone else posted a pic of the snowflake Mizlet shared with us years ago. In memory of her, I want my grands to make up a few of these to hang. Anyone have the instructions or could lead me to them.
May she RIP.........so miss her too. This time of year can be very difficult for many. Take care, ~Cher~
Agreed, Cher. Makes such a nice change when all the candidates can sing but I feel mortified for them if no one turns :-( Must look up who you have as judges. Ours are Will-I-Am, Jennifer Hudson, Gavin Rossdale and Tom Jones is back! I don't watch it every week but do dip in now and then. Are you a die-hard fan?
Less than 2 weeks and Christmas Day will be here. Are you ready? I sure am not. *sigh* Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! Sure miss Magoo here. *passing out snickerdoodles to those who like them*
decoration/piece of pottery/etc. with a cardinal, I automatically think, "Magoo would like that!" We are desperate for her sense of humor and kind words.

Novel Is anyone in contact with Mr Magoo to find out how he is managing without her? She was such a vivid, funny, kind woman. We need more like her :-)
P.S. Hello Cher. Apart from wrapping, I'm ready and can hardly wait.

CherGood for you! We all "adapt" in whatever way we feel necessary. I retired in 2005 and never looked back and don't miss it one bit. I have 4 grands, 2 sons and 2 DILs and a lot of fun going on. I wish you the same in whatever you do! xoxo
Hi EMA! Hope all is going well for you! Catch us up!
