Another told me this morning that they had dreamt about me and I had been quite nice(!)
Last week, a girl was excluded for throwing food around the cafeteria. She explained to SLT that she was fed up with the school colour and wanted to make people look brighter. She is such an eccentric, she might have meant it.

Retirement isn't for another 13 years :-( That seems a long long time away.
Glad to see your posts here again. It's been a while. How are you?
Terrified. Had to leave last school - it almost broke me - not the students, but the senior management and my direct line manager in particular. After more than 30 years teaching, I have terrible fear about my future. Please offer me some words of wisdom. Thanks.
OK, challenging school, but good supportive staff. Big pastoral department, big every department(!) - 2000 students. Smallest class of 20 has 17 special needs - shouting out, dancing, singing, throwing chairs, throwing books out of windows, punching each other. Needed five members of staff in room including me. The rest are challenging but manageable. I am dragging classroom management skills out from the back of my mind that I haven't had to use for years. Exhausting, but some classes will respond and, so far, some learning has gone on in every period. Please keep me in mind. Hope all of you still in teaching are having a bit of an easier time than me :-)
Here it is again ...September and start of a new school year. For those of us who have retired it is a bit sad, but very good not to be involved in the constant stress and responsibility of teaching.
Post your activities, delights and issues. I love reading and posting back.
Living in the Midwest this week: amazing September weather. I'm tickled pink that I can be outdoors instead of the windowless school where I taught for most of my career.
We just had a week with the grands, and it was a delight. A local zoo, the hot pretzel store, the library story hour, two swimming outings, their favorite park, the museum in their home town, and a day at home doing games, science experiments, and kid-play. How perfect is that for the gram of a 4 and 6-year-old.
I'm looking forward to fall and the time to do some more reading.
During the first week of school LAST YEAR, I hand delivered my retirement letter to HR. I spent the next few months pitching things as I taught them and giving 'good stuff' to friends.
Now I'm just waiting for the busses to roll so it feels like I'm retired :)
That dear woman helped me so much when I was first diagnosed with depression. Chatting here with her helped sometimes more than my therapist. I remember she would talk about her trips "down the rabbit hole". And sometimes she would even tell me that she thought I sounded like I was on my way down too.
As I sit here in tears I know that my life was much better because of her. God Bless Her Memory.
FlackaI know this was a difficult decision - you are a strong and courageous woman and will land on your feet. We are here for you and support you. Keep us posted.

Mixed feelings. Other post just has not worked out. Definitely is not what was advertised... Need a job so maybe this will be it. Still applying to lots, mostly outside teaching at the moment. Feels very weird. Hope all of you are well xx
Novel Won't bore you with every detail of applications and interviews and refusals. This one would be a bit of a trial but at this point I just need a job!
I dropped my 15 yr old cat off at the vet this morning. They're xraying her shoulder. At first, the vet diagnosed it as arthritis, but it's getting worse and she's really limping, so the xrays should help diagnose better. She's never been sick in 15 yrs and is a house cat. She's lost a lot of weight. The blood tests revealed nothing last week. I went with my fiance to the University of North Dakota this past Friday pm/Saturday for his oldest granddaughter's graduation. Wonder if there are jobs for a degree in Psychology or if she needs her Masters to secure a job?
At school I've been cleaning out cupboards, tubs, cabinets, etc and spent Sunday up there throwing things out. I'm saving the most useful plans for whoever replaces me. So far, I have packed up two big Rubbermaid tubs of teacher resource books I've bought over the 17 yrs. I hope to sell a lot of them. Haven't even gotten to the book sets I bought. ESL Dept doesn't get a penny for reimbursement of books you buy and I'm not giving them away since many are brand new. I did fill a table of older books and a dozen white boards for free on Sunday and was glad to see the table was empty yesterday. I'll be adding lots more since teachers are willing to take them off my hands.
I still can't believe I'm leaving. If my 6 yrs in private schools and one yr in a neighboring state would have been considered, I'd be over the needed 25 yrs. Oh well, it worked out ok and I'll be turning 65 in October, so things will work out. I'm going to put my house on the market sometime this summer and hopefully sell it. Then I can finally move up to the 13 yr old house Bob bought 10 yrs ago for "us." School got in the way and I didn't want to chance driving 30 miles in blizzards when I'm 10 minutes from school where I live.
I'm waiting to hear from the ISEA to see if I can donate some days to the district sick day bank. I am leaving, unfortunately, with 139 sick days, which I accumulated since being hired. Figured I'd need them as I got older for surgery time or getting ill. Didn't need them.
judy5caCongratulations, Mary. Since we've both been here a long time I've followed your story (I remember when you were teaching in the Catholic school). I hope your retirement brings you joy and peace.
The answer to your quest. is,"Yes".
