Hi everyone. 8 days left and I'm retiring. I didn't qualify for the 25 yrs for early retirement, but decided to retire anyway. I took another Mental Health Day today. With 139 sick days that I'm losing, I have taken a couple of those days since letting HR know I'll be retiring. That was less than two weeks ago! My job is posted and closes on Friday. This morning I've been bagging up clothes to take to the Goodwill and will be donating a lot more things to the animal rescue near my house. The proceeds there help pay for surgeries, etc, for rescue dogs and cats.

I dropped my 15 yr old cat off at the vet this morning. They're xraying her shoulder. At first, the vet diagnosed it as arthritis, but it's getting worse and she's really limping, so the xrays should help diagnose better. She's never been sick in 15 yrs and is a house cat. She's lost a lot of weight. The blood tests revealed nothing last week. Wonder if there are jobs for a degree in Psychology or if she needs her Masters to secure a job?

At school I've been cleaning out cupboards, tubs, cabinets, etc and spent Sunday up there throwing things out. I'm saving the most useful plans for whoever replaces me. So far, I have packed up two big Rubbermaid tubs of teacher resource books I've bought over the 17 yrs. I hope to sell a lot of them. Haven't even gotten to the book sets I bought. ESL Dept doesn't get a penny for reimbursement of books you buy and I'm not giving them away since many are brand new. I did fill a table of older books and a dozen white boards for free on Sunday and was glad to see the table was empty yesterday. I'll be adding lots more since teachers are willing to take them off my hands.

I still can't believe I'm leaving. If my 6 yrs in private schools and one yr in a neighboring state would have been considered, I'd be over the needed 25 yrs. Oh well, it worked out ok and I'll be turning 65 in October, so things will work out. I'm going to put my house on the market sometime this summer and hopefully sell it. Then I can finally move up to the 13 yr old house Bob bought 10 yrs ago for "us." School got in the way and I didn't want to chance driving 30 miles in blizzards when I'm 10 minutes from school where I live.

I'm waiting to hear from the ISEA to see if I can donate some days to the district sick day bank. I am leaving, unfortunately, with 139 sick days, which I accumulated since being hired. Figured I'd need them as I got older for surgery time or getting ill. Didn't need them.

Congratulations, MaryB, on joining the wonderful world of retirement! Sounds as though you're very busy with all the sorting, etc.

In answer to your question, generally yes, people with bachelor degrees in psychology need to get a master's degree in order to be employed.

mmp Congratulations, MaryB, on retiring! Enjoy your new found freedom.. No MORE lesson plans, unit plans, individualized lesson plans for each student, no parent-teacher interviews and no report cards.

time I've followed your story (I remember when you were
