I live in the NYC Metro area, and am considering pursuing a Masters in Health Ed. I am not currently a teacher; I presently work in clinical administration at a law school, by way of Wall Street, via 9/11.
I'm requesting that current Middle School and High School Health educators please write a few lines about how they find the work. Does it meet your expcetations, or does the bureaucracy of the educational system sour the deal? Have you found that most schools require Health teachers to also teach Phys Ed? Best and worst part of the work? How did you find your training - did you feel well prepared/supported or like you were left to swing in the breeze?
Any feedback, advice, and/or recommendation is greatly appreciated.
If you came to be a Health educator after working in another industry, and can provide any wisdom about that transition, that would also be helpful.
Bio-samin is a 100% natural source Sesamin extracted from Black Sesamin Seed Oil by Organic Herb Inc. Organic Herb Inc. is the first one who bring sesamin into health food field. Bio-samin Formal Name: [1S-(1„´,3a„´,4„´,6a„´)]-5,5¡¦-(tetrahydro- 1H,3Hfuro[3,4-c]furan-1,4-diyl)bis-1,3-benzodioxole Molecule Formula: C20H18O6 Molecular weight: 354.4 Purity: ƒn90% Stability: ƒ¢ years at -20¢XC Supplied as: A crystalline solid UV/Vis: max: 235, 286 nm Laboratory Procedure For long term storage, we suggest that sesamin be stored as supplied at -20¢XC. It will be stable for at least one year. Sesamin is supplied as a crystalline solid. A stock solution may be made by dissolving the sesamin in an organic solvent purged with an inert gas. Sesamin is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, DMSO, and dimethyl formamide. The solubility of sesamin in these solvents is 0.5, 12, and 33 mg/ml, respectively. Sesamin will be stable for at least six months in these solvents if stored at -20¢XC. Sesamin is sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers. Further dilutions of the stock solution into aqueous buffers or isotonic saline should be made prior to performing biological experiments. For maximum solubility in aqueous buffers, sesamin should first be dissolved in DMF and then diluted with the aqueous buffer of choice. Sesamin has a solubility of 50 ƒåg/ml in a 1:10 solution of DMF:PBS (pH 7.2) using this method. Store aqueous solutions of sesamin on ice and use within 12 hours of preparation. Although the aqueous solutions of sesamin may be stable for more than 12 hours, we strongly recommend using a fresh preparation each day. Sesamin is a non-competitive inhibitor of ∆5-desaturase. It inhibits the conversion of dihomo-ƒâ-linolenic acid to arachidonic acid with a Ki value of 155 ƒåM in rat liver microsomes.

I am in the process of planning a 6 weeks course for 7&8th graders on Family Life and Sexuality Education to be opffered in Fall 2005 and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a group like this or has specific suggestions for lesson. I plan to teach about Puberty, Relationships, Dealing with Sexual Pressure, Gender and Sexual Orientation and, if there is time, some on Decision Making and Body Image. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I have a 10 yr. old daughter that just doesn't want to shower, brush her teeth, use her deoderant or anything to keep herself presentable. What do I need to do? I have made a chart of the things that she needs to do as soon as she gets up in the morning to take care of these things, but it is like pulling teeth to get her to do them. I have offered rewards, etc. I don't know what to do next. She just basically refuses to follow through with the things that she needs to be doing to keep herself clean and not smelly. At this point, I am open to any suggestions.

It's not uncommon for 10 year olds to not yet be focused on their appearance - in a few years, you'll have trouble getting her out of the bathroom. Till then, it's not a choice and I'm not sure how many 'rewards' I'd offer. We bath because our bodies need us to - otherwise we get sick - and because we care about the people around us. We don't bathe for treats or rewards.
When I had children someone told me to fight the big battles only but to me bathing, brushing teeth and using deodorant are a big battle worth fighting and I did. Does she want to pay the dentist bills when her teeth have cavities?
If she doesn't want to shower in the morning, on that I'd compromise and let her shower at night but we brush our teeth morning and night. Take her to the supermarket and let her pick out which deodorant she wants to use but that she uses it is not a choice. Get her clear which won't mark her clothes.

Laboratory Procedure
For long term storage£¬we suggest that Resveratrol be supplied at-20˚C£®It will be stable for at least three year. Resveratrol is supplied as a crystalline solid.A stock solution may be made by dissolving the Resveratrol in an organic solvent purged with an inert gas.Resveratrol is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol,DMSO,and dimethyl formamide. The solubility of Resveratrol in these solvents is at least 65mg/ml Further dilutions of the stock solution into aqueous buffers or isotonic saline should be made prior to performing biological experiments.Ensure that the residual amount of organic solvent is insignificant, since organic solvents may have physiological effects at low concentrations.Organic solvent-free aqueous solutions of Resveratrol can be prepared than 100ug/ml.We do not recommend storing the aqueous solution for more than one day. Resveratrol is a selective inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1(COX-1).¹ It inhibits cyclooxgenase and peroxidase activities of COX-¹ with ED values of 15and 3.7uM,respectively.respectively.It also has antioxidant properties.

I am using information I get off the internet on the topics of the first three chapters. I am trying to personalyze the topic to my students. I am waiting on new books. I told my students that I want to make this class a class which teaches them content they can use, not content just to be learned for a test. I guess I am on the right track.
