I'm certified in Spanish, but I'm also teaching Health this
fall in my first job since becoming certified. I'll be
teaching health to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at a small
school in a suburb of Chicago.

My problem is that now that I've received the District's
Standards and Objectives, they are woefully outdated (the
80's) and are missing many of the required State standards
and National Standards. There's nothing about violence
prevention and self-esteem.

Who should I approach about this, and how should I go about
proposing to update the district curriculum without
ruffling feathers? Any help you can give me will be
greatly appreciated.

looked into the standards. Good for you - your school is fortunate to
have you.
