I ignored my sleep problems for a long time. I rarely got more than 4 or 5 hrs. of sleep a day. As I aged I got up to use the bathroom 2 to 3 times a night. Going to my doc for a routine check up after school one day she asked,"Do you know your heart is racing?" I responded of course that I had no idea. They took me from there to the hospital by ambulance :0 I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. My cardiologist says there is a direct cause between my atrial fib and sleep apnea. I always had a low heart rate before this. (resting heart rate of 60) I now take blood thinners and daily medication to control my heart rate. I am lucky I didn't have a stroke. It is important to follow through with trying to find the cause for you being so tired. BTW I never get up to use the bathroom anymore now that I use a sleep machine.
