Ten new words: explicit implicit appropriate inappropriate encounter diminish enhance encounter master alligator
(A long, formal lesson plan with them that doesn't need to be included :)
Homework: 1) Develop a picture for the meaning of each word (Artistic Intelligence)
2) Create a song that has all 10 words (musical intelligence)
I can't draw well enough to include a picture, but here's my song: (Words are in caps just show I included them..not for stress in the tune :)
When you ENCOUNTER an AL-LI-GATOR ENHANCE, don't DIMINISH the POTENTIAL for survival! (repeat) MASTER your emotions, master your emotions! It's EXPLICIT that it's APPROPRIATE to run away..we all know that! (repeat) But it's IMPLICIT it's INAPPROPRIATE To feed them in the first place.. to feed them in the first place!

It fell through pretty quickly, because the kids were confuse...See MoreWe were supposed to do some kind of similar multi-intelligence vocabulary exercise with the students every day, all at 10 AM or some such thing. I don't remember all the details, but yep, we were supposed to have the kids draw a picture for each new vocabulary word and so forth.
It fell through pretty quickly, because the kids were confused, the teachers were annoyed, and whoever's bright idea it was got embarrassed wandering from room to room making sure every teacher was in compliance.
Good luck with all those student drawings of explicit inappropriate encounters, by the way.

In my early childhood Special Education preschool I have a little girl who is constantly saying things to keep us in stitches. Her sincerity and innocence just make the her word choices much more precious.
I use lots of music and of course Dr. Jean. Everyday we play Dr. Jean's Tidy Up at the end of our center time. Well, little miss goes home and asks her mom to play the song when it's time to clean up so they can play the game. Mom calls me and wants to know about the "Tie Me Up" game.
You can imagine the laugh we both had when we figured out that Tie ME Up was actually Tidy Up. Thank God mom is a teacher too!

I am retiring this year and moving away to another state after 33 years! I want to find the right words or poem to say at my retirement party. Any ideas? I am a speech and language teacher.

Last year I did a cute "skit" on appropriate back to school clothing for teachers. One of my staff modeled as I decked her out with an umbrella hat for rainy days, a big furry shawl for cold days, funny boots, a toy spy listening device for hearing kids conversations, a huge whistle as a last resort when the kids won't listen, a can of air spray for mysterious odors, a big eraser to erase all my mistakes, I can't remember everything but an hour in the dollar store and walmart gave me lots of fun ideas.
My confidence was put to the test recently in a hotel lobby. When the doors to the elevator opened,it was packed with women.I walked in,flashed a big grin, and said,"Looks like tonight is my lucky night.'"Don't count on it,"said a voice in the back."We're all nuns."
A few friends of mine and I have put together an interactive story book for kids talking about animal kindness. So far we have released an episode about puppy mills. Later in the summer, we are releasing another episode about dog fighting.
We have just launched and we are currently looking for feedback on the site from teachers who have experience with 7-13 year olds. Everything about the site is open to discussion.
Let me know what you think. We are very open to all types of discussions.
