How about your schools? Do any of yo...See MoreOne of our teachers at school started a book club about 2 years ago. I did not join at first since I was going for my master's degree and did not have extra time for pleasure reading. Now that the master's is done (YEAH!), I've joined and have enjoyed the book selections. A Kindle would definitely help.
How about your schools? Do any of you have book clubs? If so, what are you reading?
Love counting down the last days of school, but also savor doing all of the wonderful stuff my first graders are able to do at this time of year!! First grade is the best!!!
I teach an eighth grade self-contained special education class. It was also my first year of teaching. I can relate about the end of the year being bitter sweet. Not only am I ending the year reflecting on my students' progress; I am reflecting on how much I've learned and what I need to work on in my future years.
BarbaraBeen out two days and been busy with banking business I've put off, car repairs, errands that have piled up. About to get caught up and then just relax for a couple days! And then those cluttered closets will be calling my name!!
Conference was on using technology.... of course the company that put it on had programs for us to look at.... but they had great stuff... and it ended with a free wine tasting. :) Love conferences put on by publishing companies!!!! :)
Now..... how could I use a new kindle in my classroom..... ;)
the libraries of Johnson County are celebrating literature. Huge bookmarks created by the country's outstanding artists will be displayed this summer. We are a city of literature and sooo proud.
I've been reading a lot of Michael Connelly books this year, almost all of them Harry Bosch stories. I like the Bosch character, but I wonder how many real life detectives are as intellectual as Harry.
I like Jonathan Kellerman's descriptive writing style and have read a number of his Alex Delaware novels.
The character of John Corey in Nelson Demille's books appeals to me a lot in case you're looking for more of the beach-reads and like mysteries. Actually, I've enjoyed the stories and main characters in all the DeMille books I've read.
Now I'm turning to the work of John Irving, thanks to the recommendation of judy5ca!
Other favorites have been similar to others here: Water for Elephants, House of Sand and Fog, Kite Runner, A thousand Splendid Suns. They are at least, books I still think about. I've seen none of the movies, however.

kd/txWe are hooked on Words with Friends and 7 Little Words. I have Angry Birds, but don't really like it. I also downloaded Mysteriez and Ant Smasher. Don't really like those either.
