I coached the 7/8 math team(consisting of 4 of my IG gifted students) for district competition. We always went in my car and always got back to school just in time to get the kids home on time. Fun day! (I was paid mileage and our lunches were paid for by the school). The first year, I talked the kids into eating in the college cafeteria, which had pretty good food, It meant I did not have to fight the lunchtime traffic in a town I was not familiar with.
The second year the the kids had gotten too savvy for the cafeteria idea. They begged to go to some pizza place with a buffet I did not know about, but they knew the general area where it was they and would help me find it.
So, off we went on the main dr ag with EVERYONE else in the college town, it seemed. They spotted a sign way up high for the pizza buffet place and I turned into the parking lot, immediately. We 5 went inside with me in the lead.
I asked the hostess about the pizza buffet and she looked puzzled.
I told her how much WE were looking forward to the pizza buffet.
She then said, This is____Family Restaurant.
She looked even more uncomfortable when I told her that WE had thought it was the pizza buffet place. I told her WE apologized for making the mistake.
Then, I turned around and the 4 kids were nowhere in sight, after I had been talking about "WE". No wonder she was looking at me in such a strange way.
I went outside and there were the four kids outside my car(I had lock the doors on leaving it). Two were on the pavement laughing.
The pizza buffet place was next door with the very tall sign. I had turned in too quickly.
The kiddos really had not realized we were in the wrong place until we were inside, so of course they got out quickly. LEAVING ME ALONE.
We had a lot of laughs over this, AND I did take them to the pizza buffet place next door, but we had a long wait, because so many had gotten there before us.
When we got back to school that afternoon, one of the kids told the principal, "Mr.___, we can't take Mrs. VET with us anywhere." He got a good laugh out of it, too.

The day we got back from our only big trip, I got a registered letter telling me I had won(it was legit. I had filled out a form in a store)a trip to Puerto Rico, from which we had just returned(Puerto Rico and St. Thomas). Could not get more time off, so somebody else got the trip. Boo! Hoo!

so much to do and so little time! Packing up my school home for last 7 years to become PPT Chair - so not a fan of paper work! Have a wonderful summer break everyone.
Not much on my summer agenda -- organizing my stuff so next year can be better -- a small vacation -- a couple of classes -- and a whole lot of rest! Enjoy your summer!

JudiDorothy, I have an iPad that I just LOVE. There MANY apps that are free...educational or otherwise. I am anxious to try it with my third graders next year
LoriWe need those summers to recharge so we'll be rested and enthusiastic for the next school year. I equate it to childbirth...you need some time in between to "get over" the one before and then build up energy and excitement for the next one!
I've always thought that!
