I'm looking to connect with other teachers who use this program. I'd like to be able to learn organizational tips and resources that will make my life easier. I'm willing to exchange ones I learn along the way.
There is a yahoo group for Investigations users and a web site. I don't have the url right now but if you do a search for yahoo groups and for Investigations in Data, etc you should be able to find the group and the web site. I have used Investigations (the first edition) before. Do you have any particular questions.

I teach 5th grade and this is my second year with the program. I have been ask to lead discussion groups and presentations for 3-5 grade at my building. I need organizational tips, teaching tips, etc. for my presentations and for my own teaching. Cristinna
Thank you for everyone responding to my "classroom zoo" situation. Now, that I have decided the best option is to seek other employment, should I tell other employers why I am seeking to leave my job, or should I pose it as if I have not had a job this term? I do not know if schools can see if you are under contract, or if they would think I was complaining and I just can't handle anything--what should I say? You know I was checking their homework this weekend and it saddens me to see the literacy levels and topics that these students talk about. It's all about probation, their babies, drugs and death. If I could teach, I would stay-to help those out. But it doesn't look like that is possible. Thank you
Thank you for all your advice. I think the best choice is to find another job and leave this one, and as sad as it sounds, the kids. So, when I apply to other schools should I disclose that I have been working and why I am trying to leave, or pretend as if I haven't found a job yet? I would like to be honest, but I am afraid they might not want to hear that I started a job and I didnt finish it through. I am not sure what to do? I am honest about why I am leaving my job and I have a handbook that spells out the crazy attendence policy and grading policy and all my kids that come every week. Will a school district understand? What should I do? Thank you
wow, everyone needs to CHILL OUT here... too many hostile people throwing comments back and forth. calm down. everyone has a right to their opinion, no need to get angry and put others down. if you have not learned this yet, adults can disagree without fighting. :)
I just graduated from college - i'm 22 and am teaching high school English. It is such a different experience from my student teaching, where I had such well behaved students. I loved it so much, but now I am struggling. I love my subject and really want the kids to also, but I am having such a difficult time getting past the discipline. It seems I spend all of my time disciplining and don't have any time to actually teach because the students can't behave themselves. I think it is partly because I am so young and that they are testing me to see what they can get away with, but it is only the 4th week of school and I don't know if I can last til May. Please tell me it gets better!
I am 22 - just graduated from college and this is my first year teaching. I am teaching 10th grade English. Thus far, the year has not gone as I planned. My student teaching experience was wonderful. The students were cooperative and eager to learn, well-behaved, and I have very few problems. My students this year are rude, disruptive, and talkative. I can tell that they are pressing me to see how far they can go. I look pretty young also, so they don't really see me as a "real" teacher. It is only the 4th week of school and I can't see myself making it to May. Any suggestions? I dread going to school each day. Please tell me that it gets better.
I need help. I thought education was for me. Starting my third year, I realize it's not (I changed jobs to come here and why???). I can't stand this anymore, and it's not so much the students. Ok, there are some nuisances, but this building is nasty and the leadership here has some of the strangest notions and expectations. The only reason I'm here is to draw a check. Is this a vent or a cry for help? I don't know.

Hi Lara,
I am a mother of two. My children are 4 and 1 1/2, so I understand how busy being a full time wife, mother and teacher can be. I have found that staying after everyday at least for 1 to 1 1/2 hours gives me almost enough time to do my work. there are times that I must take work home. For the most part I find that even when I have great intentions completing work at home, it never gets done. I am so exhaused by 8:00 I can barely think straight to do school work.
Remember use your time wisely. Try not to handle papers more than once. Best of Luck!
I go to work an hour early. My husband takes care of getting the kids off to school. With my early morning hour, I try to get all my correcting and adminstrative stuff done. That way, at the end of the day, I leave with just a book or two. I do usually wind up on the computer doing a few things or looking up interesting lessons, but I really try to be available to my own kids after school.
Do all your ironing for the week on Sunday night.

So I got this assignment from my professor to watch a chatboard on here and eventually post a message and get a response. I decided to come and watch what the beginning teachers were going through. Well, the first message I read was the one about note passing being good or bad? Well, I would have to say that I thought this message board was to help one another not put one another down. I did come across some good information. However, I was disappointed in how one simple question got majorly blown out of proportion. Just wanted to share my thoughts of how new people coming to the board might perceive it.
