I rarely post on this particular board, but I thought that the new article I've posted on my website would be of particular interests to those who hang out here. It's on emotional intelligence. Mae

I have several books in which the pictures have been put on a separate page and the phrases have been re-created in 1 inch bold letters with only around 3 lines on each page. The picture pages are separate. It also comes with the phrases in flash card form so the child can memorize the phrase prior to attempting to read the book. Book titles include:
Madeline Clifford the Small Red Puppy Franklin in the Dark Franklin's Bad Day Berenstain Bears "Trouble with Pets" Winnie the Pooh (3 different Pooh books) Dinosaurs Clifford's First Christmas Farm Animals Opposites Troubles the Cat
In addition, I also have brachiation bars (Salt Lake City, Utah area..pick up only) and several bits.

Hi, I am interested in the books. Can I know all the titles and prices? Thanks. Rgds, Nancy Ang
I purchased each of them in a stack for $8.00 a piece. I have since put each page in a plastic protector with rings so it can be a book form. I am willing to sell them for $6.00 a piece. Please contact me directly at [email removed]!

In teaching math, I have mainly relied upon direct instruction and foldables. I'm trying to "let go" (smile) and start moving to a more student-centered approach.
I am thinking about ordering the following books to help:
1. Teaching Student-Centered Math Grades 5-8 by John A. Van de Walle
2. Differentiating Math Instruction: Strategies that Work for K-8 Classroom by William Neil Bender
3. Introduction to Communications: Grades 3-5 (The Math Process Standards Series ) by Susan O'Connell
Does anyone know anything about these resources, good or bad?
I have an intervention class this year. In the intervention class are a small group of boys who have very low levels of visual recall and short term retention.
I attended the Drs. Shawitz conference, and I know that a poor socioeconomic environment can lead to environmental dyslexia. We are using a reading program specifically designed for this to help correct the situation.
The boys in question can look at a picture without ever seeing the elements in the picture. If they look away, all they can tell you is the colors in the picture. They cannot name any items in the picture. They do a better job with line drawings, but photographs and full images are apparently just blobs to them.
They do the same thing when looking at a table, graph, or organizer. They see the whole, but not the component parts.
Is there anything I can read to give me some background in how to help them break things down?
This same group is heavily into tagging, and they can spend hours designing how to write their tags in fancy script.
