Dr. Daniel S. Janik, MD PhD, author of "A Neurobiological Theory and Method of Language Acquisition" has just announced release of his second work entitled "Unlock the Genius Within: Neurobiological Trauma, Teaching and Transformative Learning" (Rowman & Littlefield). See what colleagues are saying about this hotly anticipated work. "At last, an easy read on a seminal topic - the crux of the new 'brain-based' learning movement." This work takes neurobiological learning to the next level - effective but non-traumatic transformative learning. Curiosity-based, discovery-driven, mentor-assisted is a definitive answer to the fashionable but 'drift-away' educational theories. As the school year is fast approaching, I am looking for a new boost for my classroom environment. I was wondering if anyone would like to share how they set the climate for thinking as well as creating a student friendly brain- compatible learinging environment. Thanks!

by posing open ended questions about which they are allowed to form their opinions and answers which do not need to agree with mine.
I deemphasize grades- I think grades get in the way of learning- and I don't ever require memorization. Memorization is not learning.
I don't set students into competition with other - I don't care if anyone says my class is 'easy' - and I do care about how the kids feel about school and our classroom. I want them to look forward to coming to school each day as much as possible and I think of my students as well-intentioned rather than the opposite.
Have you read the book called Environments for Learning by Eric Jensen? It helped me with my room. Here is a free web site to check out for great ideas on bulletin boards. [link removed].

I heard of a dance or exercise that a class can do to stimulate their brains. We do Open Court in my district, and I need some good transitions that can even help my students. Any information would be helpful.
