I have a space themed wall (Who wouldn't want to take a journey to space, right) The only caption I can think of is: Blast off with a journey into space OR Blast off with a good book.
I have 4 computers in front of a window. I put up paper around the window and made a fun border with old CD's I had. I need a caption to put at the top?????
I have a wall with 2 windows. I am planning on making the windows with panes, so you can see it in the library as well as in the entry way, when people walk in the building. Around the windows in the library, I plan to have a space for student work. So any caption that might incorporate a window...window to learning??? ugh..hard one
Another wall has a hot air balloon theme. I think I have this one planned. I have a poster that has a caption. Put up cloud paper, a border with blue and white tule. I have also taken round, striped paper lanterns, hung three at different lengths. Found small baskets and added them with string. Now they are hot air baloons
I live in the pacific NW (Seattle Area). I would like to display Animal Journeys (Migration) I am planning on migration of whales, salmon and birds, such as snow geese?? Idea for a caption???
I have a biography wall...nothing on it yet. I was thinking of finding books to display of people who have taken part in adventures both current and in the past. Ideas???
2 Pillars/poles in the library....what to do.....hmmmm!
Finally I have a HUGE space right above the books about states, countries, geography etc. Thinking of a map?? Any ideas for a good caption relating to that and adventure or journeys?
I KNOW THIS IS A LOT OF INFORMATION, BUT THAT IS WHAT THE FORUM IS FOR, RIGHT? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I AM VERY EXCITED, BUT NEED SOME INPUT WHEN AND IF ANYONE HAS A FREE MOMENT TO RESPOND. THANK YOU:)

A word of warning to librarians and media specialists: CHAIN GANG ELEMENTARY is NOT a children's book. It is an adult novel-- a tale of war between parents and a grade school principal, with teachers and students caught in the middle. For an example of this fictional account, see "Standard Hightower Intellachievement Test": [link removed]
PublisherChain Gang Elementary now has a facebook page that offers a summary and sample chapters. This novel serves as an excellent HOW NO TO on maintaing PTA-principal relationships.

Did anyone else see or hear the news yesterday about Atlanta Public Schools' Media Specialist being made to be teachers this year for the absent teachers that were removed due to cheating?
What is happening to the Media Specialist Job? Is it really that expendable?
I'm suddenly faced with class periods that are only 30 minutes long, as opposed to the 45 minutes I thought I would have with each class in the library. How much time do you allow for students to select a book and check out? I'm new, so any pointers helping me manage my time would be great. Thank you.
I would plan at first for 15 minutes with a warn...See MoreYou didn't say what grade levels you are working with. But at the beginning of the year, it may take longer to check out than later. It takes time for students to find books--looking for that "perfect" one or two. You may still be learning the check out system as well as students names, etc.
I would plan at first for 15 minutes with a warning at 5 minutes...also depends on the number of students and if they are all looking for books at the same time or if you dismiss them by groups/tables, etc. If the later, you will need something for those waiting to be doing.
Hope this helps.

I’m an elementary teacher who has developed a fun but effective math/music program for students grades 3-6. The audio and video series are aligned to State and Common Core Standards and really motivates students to learn math and equips them with the foundation to excel on Standardized TESTS.
Has anyone used the Mimio system which is used with a magnetic dry erase board? It's about $900 cheaper the Smartboard. Does anyone have the pros and cons?
I am a retired teacher who just took a part time job at a library. I have had 8 hours of experience at the circulation desk using Millenium while trying to service the folks effectively. Do any of you know of a website with a Millenium tutorial? Thank you.
I am to teach library to PK - 8th grade, and computer skills to 1 - 8. I have PK - 1 for 30 minutes once a week. 2nd for 45 minutes once a week, and 3rd - 8th for about an hour. (If the first few days this week are any indication, I don't think I'll have those full amounts of time ...)
At any rate, this doesn't give me a whole lot of time to get in both computer instruction and library skills, especially when also trying to correlate with the various teachers curriculum.
Also, we subscribe to something called K to the 8th Power and I am expected to use it.
I'm thinking with first and probably second grade to just do the computers as a center type thing, and not have them in the computer lab at all - just not enough time to do much switching.
3rd and up I *was* planning on doing a 30 minute computer lab session, then a 30 minute library session. However, after 2 full days of regular classes (we had 3 1/2 days last week) I am realizing that it will be quite rare that I get an actual full 60 minutes with any of my classes.
I know there are many lessons which can correlate both library skills and computer skills ... however I'm also wanting to make sure that the kids get ample time to check out books to read, so can't spend all my time in the computer lab.
I am expected to teach keyboarding, MS Office skills, and of course research skills.
I would really love to hear how others have combined these two full time type positions and managed to get all the skills in with meeting once a week.

This was wonderful! I loved it, I have to share this.
