This board used to be "hopping" with lots of posts...now it seems to be sitting still. My question is where has everyone gone? Is there another site that is being used instead? More than one site? Blogs?

Basically you pick a book, put a special printed scholastic bookplate in the inside cover that has a tracking #, and send it off to a bookmate. This can be another individual, a class etc in a different part of the country/world. When they receive the book, they login the tracking # on the inside cover through scholastic, read it aloud to a class, then repeat the steps by sending it to another. The book won't return back to you, but classes can track where their book has traveled etc. through scholastic. I would love to do this with other librarians. I have a K-5 school in WA state. it would be great to have others join in on the fun. I'd LOVE to see the books travel far..kids would be so excited. Anyone interested??? please email me if you would like to take part. The only thing is that you would pay is the cost to mail the book. I am going to do 6 books, one for each grade level, and hopefully send them off to 6 different places. My k-5 classes will love tracking this! So if interested please email me at mcrimin#stanwood.wednet.edu. Specify a particular grade you see in library. Hope this makes sense. Thanks! Molly
We suggest that you consider this book for your school and classroom libraries, and as a beautiful gift for adoptive families. A beautiful story with stunning illustrations!

Librarians and teachers are showing this nine minute motivational cartoon to students of all ages. It really makes them think twice about taking their education more seriously, and they love it! [link removed]
What do you do with children who read above their level at say 3rd grade.
I have a child who wants to read The Hunger Games and he is in 3rd grade!!! I told him No and he said he had seen the movie and his Dad told him he could read it. I find it totally inappropriate for him to read this in the 3rd grade yet the child struggles through Harry Potter??
I have the same issue. I did notice that on my quote they increased my student population. Be sure and take a look at that. I had them reduce the number to what I had previously. That helped a little bit.
Our county recently voted to cut Library Media Specialist (elementary only) to half day, as well as elementary counselors. We are trying to fight, but are really lost. Any suggestions????
