Hello all!

I just started my new job on January 4th, and inherited a rather antiquated research project that third, fourth, and fifth grades complete during the second semester. Since I came in on January 4th and did not have access to any information over the break, I was told by the outgoing librarian and the principals to keep everything "as is," and make changes next year, when I can collaborate with teachers.

Well, a couple of teachers are being outright hostile towards me and want ME to grade their students' research projects. When I refuse, I get an earful about how busy they are, etc etc etc. I do not know of any librarian in our district who grades papers for teachers. Occasionally we complete an activity and I give the teacher a chance to take it for a grade.

Do you grade papers?

Melissa Josef I wasn't trying to criticize, nor trying to imply that you aren't doing your job. The question was, do you grade papers? I'm just saying it's not a yes or no answer. I'm also saying, especially to someone new, you'll win more "friends" with honey than you will with vinegar. It took me many decades to learn that lesson well

teach A bit late in the thread, but was wondering which teacher assigned this task. Are you assisting, or did the assignment idea come from the classroom teacher. Whichever one assigned the task I would think is responsible for grading it since they know what their expectations were - sorry if it was the former librarian because that does leave you holdi...See More

eMarking Assistant I often work with courses were there are many different people grading the papers and I encourage the examiner (head teacher) to supply as much information as possible to the graders. One argument for doing this is that, the better the provided information the: * more likely the graders will use it * there will be less complaints based on inconsist...See More
