This book by Anne Laurel Carter has come to my attention. It presents a one sided view of the Palestinian conflict through the eyes of a 9 year old who wants to be like her grandfather, a shepherd. There has been quite a lot of worrisome press about the book, does it deserve a place in the junior high grades 6-9 school library or classroom library? any thoughts or comments appreciated.
Melissa Josef Why wouldn't you? It is rated for grades 5-8 and has a positive review from School Library Journal. Any school teacher librarian would put this book in the collection without hesitation. If you are concerned about it being "one-sided", then balance it by providing another book with an opposite viewpoint that has an equally solid review behind it. K...See More
