I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am compiling Summer Reading lists for my students in grades K- 8. I am looking for multiple genre, high interest books. Does anyone have any suggestions for specific books? Thank you in advance!

Kansascity gal I would suggest putting some newer books on the list and maybe a short story book. My Mother's Tattoo And Other Stories For Kids is a suggestion. It can be read to younger students or alone and will be of interest to many. It also is timely. Be bold and don't fall into the same ole list of books.

I am sure you can look up the lexile at lexile.com to be sure in which grade it would be most useful. I am going to be teaching a Forensic Science unit next year to gifted 8th graders. I would love to incorporate some age/grade/developmentally appropriate literature into the class as well. The only novel that comes to my mind is To Kill a Mockingbird. Does anyone have other suggestions? Thanks!

Alexandra Chasing Vermeer is awesome! It also has two other books that are in a series but they may be hard to find. Since you are working with an 8th grade class, I would try to get a class set because they need to be able to "find" the mystery in the pictures. cavey I highly recommend the Literature and Thought series from Perfection Learning ( linked). In our district we use it for Gifted 6-8. The selections include poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.
