I am having my sixth graders read all three books in groups based on what I think would be best for them. Most of the ones who have read The Giver are reading one of the other two. I love the literature circles, and it makes grading things much easier. I hope that the groups will get to the point where they run themselves. I want to hear kids discussing the issues without my lead. My students are advanced readers, so I am anxious to see them soar with their new responsibilities. So far, the groups have been working well. This week was mainly pre-reading assignments, but we start reading tomorrow. Wish me luck!!!
