Mentor Teachers Chatboard

Five or so years ago, there was a posting on the Kindergarten Chatboard from a professor looking for volunteers to become "e-mentors" for her pre-student teaching students. I volunteered for 3 terms with her program (it was a university out in Ohio). Each of her students was assigned an e-mentor, and we corresponded solely through email. They had specific assignments and questions to ask, but I always encouraged my students to ask more, and go the extra mile and do more. They'd get more out of it. The professor who did this has since retired, and the perosn who took over for her did not continue this aspect of the program. I always thought that it was a good way for preservice teachers to get additional help and insight into real teaching, and have wondered why more professors don't do that sort of thing.

muse Love this idea! Too bad she didn't do research on her idea so her replacement saw the value of it and continued it.

Need a mentor please Hi - I'm not a newbie teacher, but I did just get my license and will have to complete a new licensee program, so I would appreciate having a e-mentor teacher/friend to correspond with/talk with during the school year.
