I do set mine up in a PowerPoint format. I do print out this power point in a notes format so students can follow along and write notes. I do call it my syllabus and use that word with the 8th graders.
First slide room number and school e-mail and my name. Couple slides with my family. Several slides with procedures: 6 basic classroom rules, what to bring to class, restroom/drink procedure, fire drill procedure, tornado drill procedure, first quarter due dates, units covered, grading scale, grading report out schedule (mid term and quarterly)
This should help you a little bit or at least get started.

Another thing that might be a good gift would be a bag. I know I cart tons of things each day to and from school. Maybe some type of over the shoulder bag. You can get one from Barnes and Nobles and maybe pick up a gift card?
The third and maybe most important gift would be a coffee mug. A lot of my coworkers use one of those traveler's mugs with the lids! These are great for either tea or coffee. Again, maybe you could personalize it with her name on it.
