When teachers employ technology in education, like using device-based timers in their classroom, something amazing happens. (Click below to access the brief article.)

In his short article on motivating students, Dr. Marv Marshall writes:
A very important difference between the two types of motivation concerns building characteristics and values such as integrity, kindness, generosity, caring, perseverance, and responsibility.

Hi Fran! What would you like to discuss? I teach 6th grade ELA; you?
Looking for some ideas for a middle school book report idea. Want something the students will enjoy, but nothing cutesy that would be more for 6th grade (book in a bag or mobiles). Any ideas?
Do one on A Game of Thrones. Give students a couple months to read, then have them give a summary of the book to check their understanding. The will love the book and soon be reading the sequels(or watching the show). I did this with my 8th grade and 9th grade class and it got many of them interested in reading.
This is one thing I have struggled with all year. I find the students get so hung up on he project they forget to read the book just for the sake of reading. I have tried enhanced reading logs, but they got cumbersome. I do require a biography and the students have to "sell" me the book as the person they read about. But that, too, turns into more of a Google search than a reading exercise. I will follow this line for any ideas.
I have 2 classes of pupils aged 11-12 (around 70 students) who are learning English (we are in a French Middle School in the West of France, near Nantes).
I would like to start a penpal exchange with a class from an English-speaking country.
