An issue has arisen just today at my daughter's high school and I wanted to get some opinions on it.

It all started back before Christmas Vacation. Because of all the time they missed due to Hurricane Sandy, the school changed the last day of school before Christmas vacation to a full day when they usually only have half a day. A lot of girls, including my daughter, were upset about that. A bunch of girls protested by clogging up quite a few of the toilets in the girls' rooms. I'm told that they unravelling huge amounts of toilet paper into the the toilets and then flushed them and made them overflow. As I understand it, they did this to over half of the girls' room toilets in the school.

The principal was livid about this and demanded that the names of those girls who did this be turned over to her. She warned of "serious consequences" if the guilty parties were not identified. Apparently, they never were identified.

Today, as they returned from Christmas...See More

mrsd Well, it's easy. Somebody should step up and reveal the girls' names. It's not a matter of narking on somebody. It's a matter of revealing criminal activity. These girls over-reacted to a necessary change in their school day. If these were my own HIGH SCHOOL children, I would be horrified and would institute consequences at home too. These girls so...See More

anony mouse The girls were wrong, but the principal is even more in the wrong. She's punishing the innocent as well as the guilty, and it's a pretty darn nasty thing to do. Just because she MAY have the right to do that, does make it the right thing to do. I'd take it up with the superintendent, and file a formal complaint.

She should go to the principal before she goes to the superintendent.

The mother should have been upset beyond belief that girls would...See More

Mom to Three I agree the teens who did the initial act were wrong and it should be pointed out to one and all. However, the principal is really impacting on the lives of all teens - most of whom had nothing to do with it. And let's face it, "girls' have particular needs to be met in a bathroom stall that boys do not and for which total privacy is due. I would p...See More

mrsd We've had bathrooms locked because of vandalism. Girls would use the lower grade bathrooms where there was more supervision. If they had personal needs, they went to the nurse's office and used her bathroom. Karen
