I've recently found out that I am being moved from my 5th grade, self-contained classroom to an 8th grade ELA and social studies/science classroom. To say I'm nervous and fearful is an understatement. I've taught 5th grade for 20 years and, where I do look forward to the change, am wondering how many of my usual practices will I have to change. I have lots of questions but will start with just this one. I've purchased many resources on TpT that are for interactive notebooks. My students love the cutting out, coloring and gluing into their composition books. I've noticed that there are resources like this available for 8th graders but I wondered if they would be as excited about this as my 5th graders are. I was hoping other 8th grade teachers could give me some feedback about this. I'd appreciate any tips! Thanks!

Lori Thanks for the responses. They made me chuckle, for sure! And both gave good advice, too. I appreciate it greatly!

MsHope I think the students will still like to do the interactive notebooks. I teach 7th and I agree that their #1 interest is socializing. However, they are know that they have to do work in school so I think something that involving "doing" would be a big draw for them.

However, don't be surprised if you hear some complaints. I have ...See More

Rebecca I moved from primary (K-2) to 6th grade reading and 6th-8th grade reading intervention this year. I discovered that the kids spend so much time sitting and listening throughout the day that any opportunity to engage, create, or move was appreciated. My students did foldables and interactive notebooks and loved it.
