Hello, I am starting a new position as a 5th & 6th grade ELA teacher and one elective class for 5th through 8th in journalism, in charge of the school newspaper. I have taught for 10 years, (midlife career change) and now my children have followed my footsteps and are teaching with one starting her first year as a 3rd grade teacher and the other as a middle school teacher and lead teacher for the whole school (she has been teaching for 3 years). My other child is an assistant principal after teaching for 4 years. I was a principal but had to take a step back and go back into the classroom after having a very horrible year with the loss of my mother-in-law and having doubts about if I was where I wanted to be. Now I feel like a failure because I have left the network where my children work and I am back in the classroom while they are all moving up. Why the move back to teaching? Isn't that what we want - our children to do better than us. Oh while being a principal for the first time in my life, I was in school to get my principal license after putting my doctorate on hold because I got a scholarship that is paying for my second Masters for Leadership and Innovation to get this license. Am I losing it or what is wrong with me? Be easy everyone, I am new to the site and I am not just dipping my toes in the water, I am diving in - full belly flop or wonderful looking dive! It all depends on how this post works out. Any advice or words of wisdom for someone who feels lost. The only thing I know for sure is that I am smiling when I think about entering that classroom and teaching those eager and spicy little faces! Also my school does not have a journalism curriculum, and my first masters is in curriculum and instruction so I am building one. Anyone interested in the general outline I created in one day?
