We have started playing the silence game too. I love it! We also use it to dismiss from first line. We whisper the names of the students who have work out first. We leave the students who need help selecting their own work and the ones that I want to work on SPL with for last. Then, I invite the students selected for SPL (I would already have everything ready) and my assistant/intern helps the others who need help. It works great and sets a nice calm tone for the rest of class. It is really important for students to be busy working and focused because; we are a ½ day primary class. This is my sixth year teaching but, my first year as a lead in a Montessori classroom. I love it! I have five traditional teaching endorsements/licenses and an array of different experiences plus an MA in human development. I believe that I was searching for a Montessori environment this whole time. I can’t wait to read and learn more!
